On Average How Much Do Artists Spend on Art Supplies Per Month

The Making A Marking Poll for March examined annual expenditure on art materials (including art equipment and technology).  It asked how much exercise you spend per annum and how much do you claim confronting revenue enhancement due.

Rather less artists than usual responded to the two polls (plus a poll within a poll near handling of expenses for revenue enhancement), even so the results have been fascinating.

How much do you spend on art materials, art equipment and applied science to support your art habit in a year?

The headlines are:

• USA artists spend much more on art materials/equipment & applied science when compared to United kingdom artists
• U.s. artists claim more of their expenditure on art materials against tax

The big imponderable is whether or not the ratio of professional artists to those who create art for enjoyment rather than equally a career was the same in both polls.  The answer is I simply don't know.  I'g guessing it'southward possible that more professional artists responded to the U.s.a. poll.

For the record 37 people responded to the U.k. poll (in sterling£) and 32 people responded to the U.s. poll (in US$).  In the charts below, the value of the spend (in £ and $) was made roughly equivalent and then the charts are in fact straight comparable in terms of the total sum spend in a year.

In the Britain, in that location are more than people spending less on art materials.   Over a third spend less than £300 per annum.  The nautical chart shows a decline in the percentage of artists spending on art materials & technology equally the total spend grows

• The most:   27% spend betwixt £150 - £300
• The least:  eight% spend more than £3,000

The biggest divergence comes from the different attitudes to tax and completing tax forms.

• 69% of USA artists merits virtually of their expenses against taxation and but 25% claim not to exercise tax forms
• in the UK only 25% of artists claim nearly of the expenses against tax.

The United kingdom of great britain and northern ireland gives the impression that people don't quite understand what to do about tax, while virtually of the American artists are decorated claiming expenses confronting tax due and filling in taxation forms.

• Do American artists make sure they claim confronting tax because they spend more?
• Or do they spend more considering they know they can claim against taxation?
